Our online shop is just days from going live, pre-sales are almost ready to go, and it is the combined work of a small and fantastical village that got us here.
Participation is something we deeply value and cultivate between ourselves, with our team members and suppliers, and most importantly with you – our community. It's ingrained in everything from how we birthed our clothing brand; to who we chose to work with; to our decision to create community from the start. It’s not something we do, it’s a core characteristic of who we are, and it invites others to build sustainable value with us.
The two of us come from completely different backgrounds, but there’s a potent cross-section where our passion for creativity, entrepreneurship and activism meet – it’s here, that our capacity expands, discovery rules and trust grows. Together we grow stronger and collaborating ignites a certain spark in each of us. The support, encouragement and reinforcement we get from each other manifests itself in a kind of collective endurance that gives us what need to push harder and dream bigger. This kind of friendship is rare and kind of awesome, and the energy of it ripples out and attracts some rather-cool humans.
Our amazing group of suppliers and collaborators add a whole new layer of valuable support. Our assistant designer and pattern-maker, Caroline has turned our sketched ideas into reality. She is patient, mad-talented and wise. She helped us source beautiful, sustainable fabrics and is guiding us through the often-overwhelming manufacturing process. We wouldn’t be where we are now without her.
Then there is Lee Ann, our ceramic artist who makes each of our lovely, black ceramic buttons by hand (yes, you read that right). Each little button is a work of art, sustainable and uniquely ‘us’.
Our dedicated photographer Emma, brings a keen eye, and spirited grace to every shoot. Her youth and enthusiasm flows through the lens (music and wine a must.)
HK marketing team, Karen and Lauren work with us because they believe in what we’re trying to do, and we work with them because we trust them to question us, and improve our best laid plans into something better. Like the two of us, we don’t always agree on everything, but the process of challenging and building on each other’s ideas makes our lofty goal of trying to sell a direct-to-consumer capsule collection without any paid social media advertising that much more achievable.
Finally, and most-importantly, there’s you – our community of incredible women who stand behind our vision, support us with positive comments in real life and on social media, and offer overwhelming enthusiasm for our clothes and what we are imagining for the future. Your feedback is so incredibly valuable. It’s influenced everything from the clothes themselves, to how we talk about them.
Together we’re building something different, differently and whoever said “it takes a village” had it almost right. For us, it takes a village of engaged, enthusiastic, amazing women willing to jump in and participate honestly, fully and passionately. We couldn’t do it without you.
Game on. This is just the start.
